Reesessed: The one where I profess my love for Reese Witherspoon

Kinker Jen here, and while we wait for more Water for Elephants news (read: Robowski pics) to start trickling in again, I thought I’d take this opportunity to profess my love for Reese Witherspoon and why I am SO HAPPY that she accepted the role of Marlena in Water for Elephants.

I think Reese Witherspoon first came on my radar in 1997-ish when I saw ‘Freeway’ on HBO. She was just a little older than me and as I watched her slice open a prison guard with a self-made shank and hold her own against Jack Bauer I thought “man, this girl has some serious talent.” Being from Alabama, I loved her authentic, white-trash southern accent. This was pre-Bauer-Hour for Keifer Sutherland, who, by the way, looks just like the chester molester in Lovely Bones in this pic, huh?

Creepy Keifer and MY GIRL REESE!

The next role I really loved her in was Election – maybe this one was a little close to home for me. I was sorta kinda a go-getter in Jr. and Sr. high, I may or may not have been class and student government president once or three times. As a professional class candidate, I thought she nailed it. 😉

Then Legally Blond came out and I was truly in love with Reese Witherspoon. I think this is the one movie that no matter how many years go by you can turn it on and watch it, it’s a Generation X classic. Bend and snap anyone?

Stifler's mom was sofa king funny in this movie!

In January 2000, I relocated from L.A. (that’s Lower Alabama) to San Francisco all by my lonesome. A couple of years later, I will never forget driving down Geary Ave. in the inner Richmond district and seeing a bus shelter ad for Sweet Home Alabama. I had been under the impression that Charlize Theron was going to lead in that movie. (BRAGGING MOMENT: before she broke up with Stephan Jenkins, lead singer of Third Eye Blind, I got to be around Charlize a few times because he is my people.) I was pleasantly surprised to see Reese was the lead because she is a true southern belle! I saw it opening weekend and cried into my unsweet tea as I longed to be back in the dirty south.

Aww the memories

Since then, I have followed her every move. Reese been MISS RELIABLE for opening up movies. I admit I felt like a proud sister when she won the Oscar for her role in Walk the Line. When I heard she would be starring opposite of His Holy Hotness Robert Pattinson, I knew this would be just the perfect blog for me to contribute to! I’m double-fangirling!

Just for the record: I’ve tried Reese’s hairstyles, her perfume (Avon), and I even have a daughter named Ava!

So, thank you Reese, for all of your inspirations! I can’t wait to see you in action in Water for Elephants! It would be a wonderful thing to meet you and give you a big hug and chitchat over sweet tea one day! I think I’d squeal more at meeting you than RPattz! 😉

Has Reese Witherspoon inspired you too? Let me know, so I don’t feel so crazay about gushing!

Hahaha! This is so great. I flove Reese too and for so many of the same movies (Freeway and Election, but especially Legally Blonde and Sweet Home Alabama) and reasons you cite above. I can’t even think about “Jackson” without thinking of Reese singing…

I think she’s beautiful and classy and oh so talented and I can’t wait to see her opposite Rob in WFE!

  • Jen

Pass that sweet tea over here, sister. I am fangirling, too! I am from good ‘ole Mississippi, and I feel the same way you do. I love Reese, and am THRILLED that she and Rob are doing this movie together. Could it get any hotter?

Gush on, us Southern girls gotta stick together!

  • JennB94

I think her first or at least one of her first movie’s was Fear in 1996 with Mark Wahlberg. That was the start of me loving Reese. I could totally relate to her since she is around my age so I love any and every movie she is in. She’s beautiful, talented and inspiring!

Oh Jen your Ava is such a cutie!

I’ve always had a girl cursh on Reese! Ever since Man in the Moon.

You just can’t take your eyes off of her. But with Rob as her costar I think WFE might be the first time 🙂

  • Candace

JennB94 if you have not seen Man in the Moon, you need too!!! She is very young in it but still VERY talented!!!!

    AND YES VERY CLASSY LADY!!

  • Alison4828

I agree Jen, Reese is wonderful! I first saw her in The Man in the Moon when she was just a little thing and thought wow she is adorable. And I saw Freeway the same way on HBO and was blown away by her performance. She has only gotten better over the years and I too and so happy she was attached to this project before Rob signed on, it will be a great match!

Thanks for sharing your Reese love with us! xo

I love Reese too. The first movie I remember seeing her in was Wild Flower – made for TV movie. She was a teenager and she outshined everyone in the cast. It was such a precious movie I even purchased a copy. I’ve watched her career ever since.

  • Linda

I’m from Tennessee and have always loved Reese. If you haven’t seen The Man in the Moon, you need to see it. As young as she was, you could see she was a brilliant actress. She was perfect for Sweet Home Alabama because she did not have to fake that voice – nothing worse than an artificial Southern drawl! I think her sense of humor is what keeps Rob smiling on set. Both are perfect for the roles! Can’t wait!

  • Cindy

I am not from the south, but I am from southern California (Los Angeles to be exact) and I want to join in on the Reese love, too. I first saw her in The Man in the Moon when I was around 8 years old and became a big fan. When she was up for the Oscar for Walk the Line I was rooting for her all the way and cried when she won and gave her acceptance speech. I love her movies and I think she is such a talent. I was so thrilled to hear about her being casted as Marlena and I cannot wait to see her and Rob together on the big screen. Eeee!

  • Reese Rocks! I’ve always enjoyed her movies. I remember hosting a birthday party for her movie A Far Of Place at the El Capitan in Hollywood when I was younger. I wanted to BE her. That movie was so amazing to me.

My other Reese favs are: American Psycho (she was the BEST yuppy), Just Like Heaven (such a cute movie if you haven’t seen it), Penelope (she was hardly in it but she produced it and it was during my James McAvoy crush), Four Christmases (LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! SEE THIS MOVIE), and obviously her biggest movies (SHA, LBs, & WtL).

I think she is one classy actress and love the success she’s had. I have complete faith in her portrayal of Marlena and can’t wait to see her alongside her horses, Rosie, Christoph, and of course, Rob. I think she is the most universally known actor in this movie and love the dynamic she will bring to the story. Who doesn’t know Reese Witherspoon?!

    Ok…my fangirling is over. 😉

  • chico’s mama

reese is our girl from right here in nashville. we’re all very proud of her and love her work. rob and reese should be special. and the whole cast. the book is wonderful.

  • ndnwmn

Ms Witherspoon is amazing…As June Carter Cash in Walk the Line…
She seriously owned that part…I look forward to her in Water For Elephants…No doubt she’ll own “Marlena” as well….You go Girl!

  • I’ve loved Reese for a long time. The first movie I ever saw her in was “A Far Off Place” which I had caught on TV when I was maybe 11? I loved that movie and was drawn to her from the very beginning. She struck me as a strong, true-to-herself type of person, so I have admired her ever since and have seen most of her movies over the years.

  • che

i like Reese and my favourite RW movie is FEAR… yeah i luv that movie but i guess it b/c of Mark whalberg and his caractaer David

  • Mia

I think the first movie I saw Reese in was Cruel Intentions, after that she went on to become one of my favourite actresses ever. Everything she does seems so sincere. She seems so sweet and lovely too. Very classy lady. I own quite a few of her movies – Electron, Cruel Intentions, Legally Blonde, Sweet Home Alabama but my favourite is Walk the Line, she was brilliant in the film. I am so thrilled she’s working with Rob, I cannot wait to see them on screen together. I have a feeling they’ll become one of my all time favourite on screen couples.

  • Dee

Love Reese. Just wanted to say to Jen that you have a very pretty little Ava.
