David Cronenberg to be honoured by the Gotham Independent Film Awards

David  Cronenberg, along with Charlize Theron and Gary Oldman, joins previously  announced honouree Tim Rothman, Chairman and CEO of Fox Filmed Entertainment, this  year’s recipient of a career tribute at the 21st Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York  City.

Recognized  for his vast and uniquely personal body of work, the Canadian director has  established himself as “an authentic auteur” the world over.

His most  recent feature, A Dangerous Method, has  been winning audiences and critics over at both the Venice, Telluride and  Toronto film festivals. He is also currently in post-production Cosmopolis starring Robert Pattinson.

Celebrating  independent filmmaking for over 20 years, the Gotham Independent Film Awards is  the first official awards ceremony in the award season.

Along with  these four tributes, winners of the Best Feature, Best Documentary, Breakthrough  Director, Breakthrough Actor, Best Ensemble Performance, Best Film Not Playing  at a Theatre Near You and the Audience Award will all be announced during the  November 28th ceremony.

The Gotham  Independent Film Awards nominations will be announced October 20, 2011.
