Happy Monday everyone! I have something a little different in mind today. I was browsing through the latest logo news (*points to self* nerd) and I came across an old archive video from AT&T that showed Saul Bass’s original logo pitch for The Bell Company in 1970. (It’s quite long, but if you’re interested, you can view it here!)
For those of you who aren’t familiar with Saul Bass, he is one of my favorite and most admired graphic designers. He designed so many logos that we see on a daily basis. AT&T, United Airlines, Girl Scouts of America, Avery, Minolta and United Way. Not to mention, Alfred Hitchcock used Saul Bass to create quite a few of his opening credit sequences in his movies. North by Northwest, Psycho, and Vertigo.
Anyway, I’m getting off topic. The point is, I realized something. The Bell Company has gone through many recognizable logo changes throughout the past 40+ years and I have all of them captured in manhole photo submissions. 🙂 Imagine my graphic designer delight when I discovered this!
Take a look!
If you find another Bell System manhole, or any other one, please send it to our email: email@example.com. By now you know that I can’t wait to post them.
Most importantly, don’t forget to vote for Cosmopolis in MTV’s Movie Brawl. Voting ends today at 5pmET and we are currently neck in neck with The Hunger Games. Support the limo, support Cosmopolis! Vote vote vote! Eric would appreciate it 😉
Until next Monday!
